This past Sunday we had the honor of bringing our photobooth to help an amazing 7-year-old girl named Maddie with the Grand Opening of her Lemonade Stand. Maddie has been battling leukemia since she was two years old. She told her family that she wanted to be a business owner so they organized the event to help her dreams become reality. On a rainy Sunday with a tornado watch in effect- it didn't look promising. Family and friends gathered in a circle of prayer before the event praying for the best. The little entrepreneur made her entrance at 1:00, all dressed up in an adorable pink tutu and a bright yellow, fruit-patterned work apron. Upon receiveing her official business license from the Charles County Commissioner, she was open for business. I don't know what she was more excited about- her lemonade stand or the fact that Justin Bieber sent her a personal video saying he loved her and wished he could be there! The rain persisted, but so did the steady stream of family and friends who let nothing stand in their way to be a part of this special day.
Recently, my mother Jill and I ran into her cousin Laura (Maddie's Ya Ya) at Chick-fil-A. She filled us in on Maddie's story and we talked a little bit about the plans for Sunday. She said "I've known a lot of kids in my lifetime, but nobody has touched me like Maddie has." She said that Maddie brought everyone together and made them a true family. I'm so glad we were able to be a part of her big day and capture all the love and emotion that existed there with our photobooth :).
Below is a slideshow of the photobooth pictures to Justin Bieber songs (as Maddie requested.)
